3DMakerpro Turtle - One Scanning System for Multiple Object Sizes

The 3DMakerpro Turtle Series uses a modular approach to 3D scanning. Instead of relying on one optical configuration for every object, the system offers three interchangeable scanning modules developed for different working ranges. Choose the S Module when fine detail is the priority, the M Module for general-purpose scanning, or the L Module when working with substantially larger objects.

The scanning module itself can be connected directly to a compatible computer. Add the Turtle Control Pad when you want a portable standalone workflow with scanning, processing and export handled directly on the device.

Three Modules for Three Different Working Ranges

The three Turtle modules use independent optical configurations rather than stretching one scanning range across every application. This makes it possible to select the module that best matches the physical size and level of detail required for each project.

L Module - Made for Large-Format Scanning

The L Module is intended for objects approximately 100-2,000 mm in size. Its larger 600 x 450 mm single-capture range and longer working distance make it better suited to applications such as furniture, vehicle components, large panels and full-body scanning. Accuracy is specified at up to 0.05 mm with 0.10 mm resolution.

Three Ways to Set Up Your Scanner

The selected module determines the size of object you are equipped to scan, while the physical setup determines how you work around it. Turtle supports handheld, separated modular and wired configurations, and the scanning modules can be used across these different setups.

Handheld operation with the Turtle Control Pad provides a portable, cable-free setup. Separating the module from the Control Pad can make difficult angles and confined areas easier to reach, while a direct wired connection to a computer creates a conventional workstation for longer or more performance-focused scanning sessions.

Standalone Scanning with the Turtle Control Pad

The optional Turtle Control Pad turns a Turtle scanning module into a standalone scanning system. Capture, process, review and export scan data directly on the device without keeping a laptop in the scanning loop.

The Control Pad features a 6.4-inch 2K AMOLED display together with 16 GB RAM and 256 GB SSD storage. Finished scan data can be exported as ASC or PLY point clouds and OBJ or STL meshes for further processing in compatible 3D, CAD and slicing workflows.

The integrated display also allows you to inspect captured geometry directly on the device. This is particularly useful when scanning away from a workstation, as the result can be reviewed before moving on from the object or location.

Markerless Scanning with Feature-Based Tracking

Turtle uses the visible geometry and texture of the object for feature-based alignment, allowing many objects to be scanned without applying tracking markers beforehand. This reduces preparation and also removes the need to peel markers from the object after scanning.

Very smooth or featureless surfaces can still be difficult for the tracking system to identify. In these situations, 3DMakerpro recommends using a light layer of scanning spray to introduce additional visible surface features. Glossy, transparent and highly reflective objects may also benefit from scanning spray.

Resume after Tracking Loss

If tracking is temporarily lost, Turtle can relocalize against geometry that has already been captured. Point the scanner back toward a previously scanned area and the system can re-establish its position so the scan can continue instead of restarting the complete project.

Up to 30 fps with a PC Connection

All three scanning modules operate at 10 fps in the standalone configuration and support a high-frame-rate mode of up to 30 fps when connected to a PC. The higher frame rate provides a more responsive preview when moving around an object and can make it easier to maintain a smooth scanning motion.

Automatic Calibration when Changing Modules

The S, M and L modules are designed to be exchanged between scans. When a module is connected, its matching calibration data is loaded automatically, so there is no need to perform a manual calibration-board procedure each time the scanner configuration changes.

Modules are changed between individual scans rather than during an active scan. Finish or stop the current scan before installing another module and opening the next project.

2.3 MP Sensor and Color Texture Capture

Each Turtle scanning module uses a 2.3 MP sensor and supports 24-bit color textures. Compared with the predecessor sensor referenced by 3DMakerpro, the Turtle sensor provides 76% more pixels, helping capture finer geometric information and richer texture data.

The three modules combine the shared sensor platform with different capture areas and working distances, allowing the system to preserve a module-specific focus on precision, versatility or large-format coverage.

JMStudio Scanning Software

3DMakerpro's JMStudio software supports the scanning workflow from device connection and real-time capture through optimization and export. Supported export formats include STL, OBJ, PLY and ASC, allowing scan data to continue into mesh-processing, reverse-engineering, CAD, visualization or 3D printing workflows.

Turtle can also export standard point-cloud and mesh formats without locking scan data to a proprietary project format for subsequent processing.

Which Turtle Module Should You Choose?

Choose the S Module when the majority of your work involves compact objects and fine surface details. It offers the highest stated accuracy and resolution in the Turtle range and is the natural choice for miniatures, jewelry-scale components and other small precision subjects.

Choose the M Module if you need the broadest general-purpose option. Its wide typical object range makes it suitable for users who scan many different kinds of parts and objects and do not primarily specialize in either very small or very large subjects.

Choose the L Module when large objects are the main priority. Its substantially larger capture area and longer working distance are designed for furniture, body scanning, automotive parts and other applications where covering more surface area per frame is beneficial.

Because the Turtle system is modular, additional modules can be added later as your scanning requirements change. The Turtle Control Pad works with all three Turtle Series modules. Turtle modules and the Turtle Control Pad are specific to the Turtle Series and are not cross-compatible with earlier 3DMakerpro scanner models.

Computer-Connected or Fully Portable

A Turtle scanning module does not require the Control Pad when used with a compatible computer. Connect the module directly to the computer for scanning and access the PC-connected high-frame-rate mode.

The Control Pad is required when you want to use the system as a portable standalone scanner. The Control Pad itself cannot scan without a Turtle scanning module attached.
